Can You Pass the Balance Test?

Let’s test our balance!

Having good balance is important for everything we do in our daily lives, including walking and standing up from a chair –  and toilet!  Also, because falls are the number one cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults, it is important to improve your balance to prevent them.

Check your balance ability with a four-step test.  Try to hold each move for 10 seconds. If you can’t hold it, then do balance exercises until you master it and move on to the next step. Not being able to hold the tandem step for 10 seconds means you are at increased risk for falls, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
