DAY 1: New Year Challenge - 30 Minute Walk

Welcome to Day 1 of the 7-day New Year Challenge! We’re excited to help you kick off your 2022 fitness goals!

National guidelines recommend that we get at least 150 minutes of moderate cardiovascular exercise and two full body strength training sessions a week. So that’s what we’re going to do this week, starting with a 30-minute pyramid style workout!

Today’s low impact indoor walking workout consists of five exercises in a pyramid format. Each of the five exercises is done in blocks of 20 seconds; 30 seconds; 40 seconds (top of the pyramid); 30 seconds; and 20 seconds. The walk is about 3000 steps, less or more, depending on your pace. It will work your entire body, strengthening your cardiovascular system, endurance, coordination, and balance.

Let’s make a goal of getting off the sofa and moving everyday.  It doesn’t matter where you are in your fitness journey.  Have never exercised or haven’t exercised for eons? No matter! Make an investment in your health and future by committing to moving just 1 minute a day. Keep on doing it and you may find you can do 2 minutes and then 3 minutes and so on  – building endurance and strength gradually.

The 7-day Challenge is just one example of what the recommended 150 minutes of cardio and two strength sessions a week can look like. It’s most important to do activities that you like and inspire you to move.  We invite you to try our more than 90 workouts, ranging from 5 to 50 minutes.
